Colon Cancer Screening

Early diagnosis and treatment is the key to surviving colorectal cancer

According to the American Cancer Society, colon cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in the United States. The IGO Medical physicians recognize the importance of early detection. We work closely with gastroenterologists at UCSD as well as several community gastroenterologists in order to help you schedule your colon cancer screening. There are several screening options available for average-risk individuals, and your IGO physician will be happy to discuss these with you.

Screening is usually recommended beginning at the age of 45, but it may be recommended sooner if you have a family history of colon cancer. This is especially true if you have a relative who has been diagnosed with colon cancer before the age of 60. We are happy to discuss this important test with you and refer you to a board-certified gastroenterologist.

Additional Information on Colon Cancer Screening is available from the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
