Childbirth Education
Prepared Childbirth Classes
The IGO obstetricians encourage all expectant couples to participate in a prepared childbirth class during their pregnancy to educate them on the labor and delivery process and arm them with helpful tips and tools to maximize comfort.
Instructor Marie Taylor, an IGO employee, has been teaching childbirth classes in the San Diego area since 1985 and is highly respected in the community. The maturity and knowledge that she brings to the classes provide couples with the basis for a memorable birth experience. Classes are taught after regular office hours on-site in the IGO office waiting room.
The classes teach all of the childbirth preparation basics and include a complete handbook for each couple. Couples learn effective ways to reduce stress and increase comfort during labor. Included is information on signs and stages of labor, breathing and relaxation techniques, medications used in labor, hospital procedures, Cesarean birth details and post partum information. Birth plans, breastfeeding options and pediatricians are also discussed.
Class Options:
- A Monday night class runs for four consecutive Monday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
- A Saturday class runs for two consecutive Saturday mornings (times vary).
- A refresher class, including a review of all tools, is offered on a Saturday morning for couples who have taken a prepared childbirth class in the past.
A current class informational flier can be found in your New Obstetrical Patient packet that you receive at your first visit or can be obtained at the IGO office by asking your physician or medical assistant. The flier will have information for calling Marie to register for the class that best fits with your due date.
