Tomosynthesis or 3D Mammography at IGO

IGO is pleased to announce that our screening mammograms are performed using Hologic 3D mammography technology and expertly read by the Scripps Polster Breast Center breast radiologists.

Tomosynthesis is a new type of digital x-ray mammogram which creates 2D and 3D breast images. This tool detects 20-65% more breast cancers and decreases the number of “call backs” for additional tests by up to 40%.

During a 3D exam, an X-ray arm sweeps in a slight arc over the breast, taking multiple low dose x-ray images. A computer produces synthetic 2D and 3D images of the breast tissue. The images include thin one-millimeter slices, which enable the radiologist to scroll through images of the entire breast like flipping through pages of a book and provide more detail than previously possible.

Screening mammograms can be conveniently scheduled during the same visit as your annual exam. Please call the office for more information or to schedule our annual screening mammogram.
